Truckee Livin’………..Ain’t easy

The town of Truckee, which now is probably considered a city, is a place I have always recognized as home.  Lived in many places such as Oregon, Alaska, Nevada and yet the Truckee area is destination home.  More and more people move here day in and day out, looking to experience the mountain life–yet very few really do.  We have shops that no local will ever walk into as the price and looks of merchandise don’t mesh with the territory.  Even worse, more traffic than the roads can handle and still they keep on coming.  Some say it is a good thing, others say horrible.   I say it is inevitable, it can and probably will happen anywhere/everywhere.

On the positive side, when all of this is getting me down I cruise down to one of the rivers and let it all out with rod, flies, waders, etc. and become in tune with the aquatic habitat.  That alone can relieve any stress.  So you lift a rock or see a hatch, tie on the fly you believe is similar.  Find that perfect seam, or whatever, and cast with a perfect presentation.  Drifting, waiting while in your mind you picture a nice trout taking your fly and away you go.  Coming close now to where your trout is, you prepare to set the hook and next thing you know you’re at the end of the drift and time to reset.  There is no room for frustration because we all fish for the relaxation and piece of mind, although sometimes we-myself included-forget that losing the moment.
