Hey is there a local chapter of TU in town or is it the Sagebrush out of Reno. Just moved here, lived in Missoula and Washington State and looking to get involved locally. Dig the site.
Great question.
So yes, there is a Truckee River Chapter of Trout Unlimited located out of Truckee, CA. This chapter just started. The 10356 Donner Pass Rd., Suite B, Truckee, CA 96161 address is the National Office of Trout Unlimited in Truckee, CA. My name is David Lass and I run this office for Trout Unlimited and have since it opened in January of 2007. This office is dedicated to protecting quality hunting and fishing values on the Public Lands throughout the Sierra Nevada.
If you are looking to join the Truckee Chapter, we need you! This Chapter is not a social club and will not host general meetings every month with guest speakers and programs. There is already a fly fishing club in town that accomplishes this and does it very well, the Tahoe Truckee Fly Fishers, http://www.ttff.net. This group meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at Squaw Valley Public Service District at 7pm. They are having their annual dinner this Friday at the Cedar House Sports Hotel in Truckee, CA starting at 6pm. Tons of great cheap gear.
The Trout Unlimited Chapter will meet four times each year and focus primarily on conservation, protection and education within the North Lake Tahoe area. Contact me if you would like to hear more about this and other things TU is involved with, as many of us are really excited about the new opportunity to do some specific work locally within the Truckee River chapter.
